The stickers rim kit is easy to install and faster than a traditional rim kit but it requires the wheels to be removed from the bike. The kit is unique for any 17 inch rim and is not compatible with single arm rear rims. You will find below a tutorial to help you to install your stickers rim kit for your bike.
First of all, here are the precautions to take:
Check that the rim is smooth.
Clean and degrease the rim with soap/alcohol water. Do not use WD40 or other products with silicone. The rim must be perfectly clean.
Do not overhandle the stickers on the glue side.
If the stickers are not installed immediately, store them in a dry and sunny place flat.
At the time of the installation, choose a room with a temperature of at least 15°c, sheltered from wind and dust. It is also possible to heat the rim before installing the stickers to ensure a good adhesion of the adhesives. A too cold temperature will not allow an optimal adhesion of the stickers.
After the installation, avoid contact with cold and humidity to guarantee a good adhesion of the adhesives
What you'll need:
- Degreaser/Household spirit - A clean rag - Both of your rims - A squeegee (on sale here) / Credit card can also do the trick - Heat gun or powerful hair dryer
Step 1 - Preparation of stickers :
To begin, locate the two stickers on the front rim and the rear rim. The wider ones are for the rear and the thinner ones for the front rim. A little before starting the installation of the first stickers, position the stickers rim rings flat or under a heavy load to bend them and let them take their shape.
2- Cleaning the rims:
Clean the surface of the rims perfectly with a degreasing product/ household alcohol, before gluing anything. Do not use any product with silicone such as WD40 or any other greasy substance such as polish, cream etc... if in doubt after cleaning, pour water on the cleaned surface. If it beads, it means that your product is not good. The durability of the stickers will depend on the previous cleaning.
Also disassemble one or both of your rims to be able to install the stickers.
3- Installation of the first stickers rims:
Your rims and stickers are ready! It's time to get down to business!
- First, gently remove the stickers from its support. Then position it gently on the rim contour. You should handle it from the glue side so make sure your hands are clean to avoid damaging the stickers.
- Deposit the stickers delicately, and without pressing too much, all around the stripes rim. Do not press too hard so that you can remove and reposition it if necessary.
Once the stickers is well positioned, you can press strongly all around so that it does not move.
- Next, heat the entire stickers making circles on top to make it deformable. Don't heat it too much at first. Do some test from the less hot to the more hot to not damage the stickers, because once burned, it's ruined 🙁
Once heated, you will have to fold the stickers inside the rim with your fingers. Start by folding a few centimeters all around the rim.
- Then, reheat the stickers which will have cooled down. As for the first operation, do not hesitate to heat a little more if the stickers is not malleable enough. But be careful not to heat it too much to avoid damaging it. You can then start again the operation and fold the stickers a little more inside the rim. Always on a few centimeters.
Repeat this operation until it is completely glued to the rim.
4- Repeat the operation
Once the stickers is well glued, you just have to glue the other side and make the other rim with the same method!
5- Finalization:
Allow 48 to 72 hours for maximum bonding of the adhesive while the glue is bonding to the substrate.
With this type of installation it is possible to use the vehicle immediately after installation
You can heat the vinyl to strengthen the hold of the stickers on the rim and to make them take the curved shapes if needed
Notes: It is possible to heat the adhesives with the heat gun or hair dryer to make them more malleable, eliminate the small bubbles (the vinyls not being waterproof the air escapes naturally in a few days in the sun)
