HOW TO APPLY RIM STICKERS

Anneaux rim stickers are easier and quicker to apply than a conventional rim kit, but they do require the wheels to be removed from the motorcycle. The kit is unique for all 17" rims and is not compatible with single-arm rear rims. Below you'll find a tutorial to help you apply your Rings rim stickers to your motorcycle.

First of all, here are the precautions to take:

  • Check that the rim is smooth.
  • Clean rim thoroughly, degreasing with soap/alcohol water. Do not use WD40 or other products containing silicone. The rim must be perfectly clean.
  • Don't handle the stickers too much on the glue side.
  • If stickers are not to be applied immediately, store them flat in a dry place out of the sun.
  •  When applying the stickers, choose a room with a temperature of at least 15°c, sheltered from wind and dust. It's also possible to heat the rim before applying the stickers, to ensure that the adhesives hold well. If the temperature is too cold, the stickers will not adhere properly.
  • After installation, avoid contact with cold and damp to ensure that the adhesives hold well.

What you'll need:

- Degreaser/household alcohol
- A clean cloth
- Of your two rims
- A raclette (on sale here) / Credit card can also do the trick
- Heat gun or powerful hair dryer.

To begin, place the two stickers on the front and rear rims. The wider ones are for the rear and the thinner ones for the front rim. A little before you start applying the first stickers, position the rim stickers flat or under a heavy load to bend them and let them take their shape.

Clean the rim surface thoroughly with a degreaser/cleaning alcohol before gluing anything. Do not use silicone products such as WD40. If in doubt, after cleaning, pour water over the cleaned surface. If it beads, your product is no good. The stickers' durability will depend above all on how well they've been cleaned beforehand.

You can also dismantle one or both rims to apply the stickers.

3- Applying the first rim sticker :

Your rims and stickers are ready! It's time to get down to business!

- First, carefully remove the sticker from its backing. Then position it carefully around the rim. You should handle it from the glue side, so make sure your hands are clean to avoid damaging the sticker.

- Place the stickers gently, without applying too much pressure, all around the rim strip. Don't press too hard, so you can peel it off and reposition it if necessary.

Once the sticker is well positioned, you can press firmly all the way around to prevent it from moving.

- Then heat the entire sticker, making circles on top to make it deformable. Does not heat up too much at first. Do a few tests from the least hot to the hottest so as not to damage the stickers, because once burnt, it's ruined 🙁

Once warmed up, you'll need to fold the sticker over the inside of the rim with your fingers. Start by folding a few centimetres all the way around the rim.

- Then reheat the cooled sticker. As with the first operation, don't hesitate to heat a little more if the stickers aren't malleable enough. But be careful not to overheat either, or you'll damage the stickers. You can then repeat the operation and fold the sticker a little further into the inside of the rim. Always over a few centimetres.

Repeat this operation until it is completely glued to the rim.

4- Repeat the operation

Once you've stuck the sticker on, all you have to do is stick the other side on and make the other rim using the same method!

5- Finalization :

  • Allow 48 to 72 hours for the adhesive to bond to the substrate.
  • With this type of installation, the vehicle can be used immediately after installation.
  • You can heat the vinyl to consolidate the hold of the stickers on the rim and so that they take on the curved shapes if necessary.

Notes: Adhesives can be heated with a heat gun or hair dryer to make them more malleable and eliminate small bubbles (as vinyl is not waterproof, air naturally escapes in a few days in the sun).
