Tutorial - fitting motorcycle rims stickers

stickers are designed to be installed without difficulty, but the process must be taken seriously. The step that will optimize the fit of your stickers is the preparation of your rim 😉

Before dismantling your rims and cutting your stickers, make sure you have a few things in mind. Proper rim preparation has a direct impact on the durability of your installation. Even if stripping gives you an excuse to change your theme or colors, it would be a shame not to take advantage of their quality and durability.

What equipment?

Here's what you need for your preparation:

• Degreaser/household alcohol,
• A clean cloth,
• A pair of scissors,
• A raclette (on sale here) and a credit card can also do the trick.
• Scotch tape (no need for chatertone),
• Heat gun or hair dryer,
• Approx. 2 hours.

Do I need a squeegee?

The rim scraper is ideal to facilitate the installation of your stickers rims. We offer a squeegee with your Order sticker kit, but a credit card will do just fine. To avoid the inconvenience of damaging your credit card and having to wait for your bank to provide you with a new one, you can order our high-quality plastic squeegee, specially manufactured for sticker application, at the same time as you order your sticker kit. stickers here.

Preparation

Rim preparation will determine the longevity of your stickers motorcycle rims. The adhesion of stickers glue will be much better on a clean, prepared rim.
The rim must be perfectly clean before installing the stickers. It's perfectly understandable if you want to glue your stickers immediately and admire the result, but cleaning is essential to optimize their durability.
Follow these instructions for your rims and you'll be sure to have prepared your stickers installation in the best possible way. 🧼

• Check that the rim is smooth and impact-free.
• Clean rim thoroughly with soapy water.
• Clean rim with alcohol (removes dust and greasy deposits from surfaces).
• Do not use WD40 or other products containing silicone. 
• Do not handle the stickers on the glue side.
• Place stickers in a room with a temperature above 15°, sheltered from wind and dust.
• It's also possible to heat the rim before installing stickers with a hair dryer or heat stripper (optimizes glue polymerization and thus adhesion).
• After the installation, avoid contact with cold and humidity to guarantee a good adhesion of the adhesives

If the stickers are not installed immediately, store them in a dry place out of the sun.

Stickers motorcycle rims - Installation

The stickers are delivered under transfer, and some are grouped like rim edgings on the same support.
You'll need :

• Separate with a pair of scissors,
• Set up stickers on the floor or on a table, with the front rim on one side and the rear rim on the other. (To avoid mixing up the brushes...).
• Last preparation step before going to work, squeegee stickers flat on a table or other flat surface to make them stick to the transfer and peel off more easily.

Now you're ready to position stickers on the rim.

• Position stickers beforehand with tape. (This will help you know where to stick them in relation to the others).
• Handle stickers one at a time. Remove the backing from stickers and apply to the desired area.

• Squeegee stickers once more to ensure good adhesion to the rim. Especially in crease zones.

• Remove the support sticker (Pull flat against next the rim, not perpendicular to it, to avoid lifting stickers off the rim).

• And finally, run the squeegee or your card over the stickers to make sure they stick.

Squeegeeing at this point removes any bubbles and creases, providing a clean finish and better hold. You can also use a heat stripper or hair dryer to remove bubbles by heating and scraping. And if a stubborn bubble just won't go away, don't panic, you can pierce it with a small sewing needle (it won't show afterwards.)

What to do if it comes unstuck?

The bike is subject to technical constraints due to the weather. Humidity and sunlight wear down stickers, but it's more likely that the tint will change before they come off (this is always relative, and we're talking in years. Your stickers won't turn pale in 6 months), unless you haven't prepared the rim sufficiently.

That said, with good rim preparation we can guarantee several years of trouble-free performance, and stickers will more likely be worn down by impacts (gravel propulsion...) than by weather or weakening glue. 🌧☀️

If the stickers come unstuck, it's best to remove them and put on new ones. It's the perfect time to change your style... (Because you've been hesitating between stickers fluorescent and holographic, for example...)

To remove the stickers labels without any headaches and without leaving glue or small pieces, heat them up with a heat gun or your trusty hair dryer. Then, to remove any traces of glue that may remain on the rim, you can use a spray-on label remover, acetone, white spirit or even hairspray (wait a few minutes, then scrape off the residue).
